Hi, my name is Petra. I first got diagnosed with leukaemia Feb 27th 2006.
It has been hard taking so many drugs and staying in hospital, and missing school for over a year. But the next year of treatment wont be so bad, and i plan to get better, and do all the things i was allowed to do before i had leukaemia - like swim under water, eat raw carrotts, baby tomatoes and runny eggs...
Thank you for all your support, especially Jacky and all the wonderful women shaving their heads for CCF.

Oh this is me in my Taekwondo warrior uniform, i`m now a yellow belt and can smash wooden planks with my kicks!!

Love Petra.

Why I'm Having My Head Shaved

A couple of things got me involved in Shear Inspiration.

Firstly, in early 2006 I met a family whose lives had been turned upside down /inside out and back to front when their daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. I received a huge life reality check; what if that was happening to me and one of my children.

Then, my dad happened to complain that he preferred me with short hair. Always on the lookout for ways to disgruntle the parents (OK I'm probably far too old to be doing this) I gleefully replied that I'd have it cut short - or more precisely shaved!

There it was, I could shave my hair, help to raise money and awareness for the Children's Cancer Foundation and annoy my dad at the same time - bliss!

Once the butterflies of actually shaving my head had subsided I told a couple of friends my plans. When you go public with "I'm going to shave my head" you really can't change your mind.
